Just Who is this Mary Kay Lady?

I've always considered myself to not be one of those "hair and nails" girls who are constantly obsessed with makeup and looking in a mirror. Of course I wear makeup and fix myself up, but I'm not overly concerned with reapplying my lipstick throughout the day when it has worn off. So, I've not really paid much attention when women at work are selling Mary Kay makeup or Avon, except one time about ten years ago when one of my co-workers used Mary Kay product me which I did happen to like but never ended up buying.

When I recently was sent a copy for a review about the "true" story about Mary Kay over at Wild Women Reviews, I admit that I was initially inclined to pass it off to someone else on the team because I wasn't interested in reading about cosmetics. But then I started thinking that I AM interested in females who takes business by the balls and are successful, so I decided to read the book. Although it wasn't something that I would normally read, I'm glad I did.

I still don't know much about Mary Kay, the woman who created a billion dollar cosmetic company. The book just adds more mystery to her and makes her sound like a complete bad ass with disposable husbands. So naturally I am going to start investigating more about her and learning just who this woman was . Meanwhile, head on over to Wild Women Reviews and read my review of the book.

Im with you, Im not one of those women who even looks at herself again in the mirror once during the day after i have left home.

Whats the point, if i had some crap on my face then a co-worker would surely tell me so right?

Interesting info on Mary Kay.
New here.

I have never thought of Mary kay this way. To me, it is more a pop culture icon, something campy even ("Edward the Scissor Hands") Actually, I didn't even know there was a WOMAN who founded this company. I read your review. Now I am interested too. Thank you.

LOL! I actually sold Mary Kay for a short while and all I knew of her before hand was blue eyeshadow and bleached bouffant hair! I encountered a lot of cold shoulders when I mentioned I was selling it to friends. But then a very baddass woman pointed out to me that it is another way in which society has given a strong woman a bad rep.
"Of course it rubs people the wrong way, Mary Kay was a feminist." She explained.
She empowered women everywhere to get out of the house -where most women were stuck at the time - and make their own damn money while making other women feel good about themselves. Is Mary Kay a bad ass? If she is seen as irritating, she must have done something pretty amazing to have earned her that stigma! Thank you for bringing it up here:)

I will have to disagree with the last comment, I think American Women are amazing, they are fiesty and independent, and are well on the way to becoming the lead gender. They excell in school, business, and just about every other area.
As they continue on thier path towards leadership, they continue to liberate us from the decision making process, and guide us towards our future suport role. The sooner we accept this as males the better off we will be.
